Fishing can bring pressures that are not always visible from the outside. Long hours, risk, uncertainty, financial pressure, regulation, isolation, time away from family and the responsibility of working at sea can all affect mental health and wellbeing.
Fairwinds Cornwall works with fishing communities across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly to help make mental health support more reachable, trusted and easier to access.
Our fishing work forms part of Fairwinds’ NHS-funded rural wellbeing outreach. We provide regular outreach visits to local ports, attend fishing community events, and work closely with other organisations connected to the fishing industry.
This joined-up approach helps us build trust, understand the pressures affecting fishing communities, and create practical routes into support when someone needs help.
