Training, qualifications and experience
I am an experienced and passionate psychodynamic counselling therapist registered with The National Counselling Society (NCS) and while my work is largely psychodynamically informed and supervised, if needed and more suitable, I am able to be guided by other counselling principals, including CBT techniques, solution focused techniques, ACT techniques and behavioural activation (which is a NICE recommended intervention for depression).
My work varies client to client, I offer short and longer term psychotherapies to adults on an individual basis, who may be suffering with a range difficulties/ presentations including depression, anxiety, anger, low self-esteem, adverse childhood experiences, relational difficulties past and present, work related issues, substance abuse, as well as other problems and challenges.
More than 10 years of working in primary care mental health services has refined my ability at assessing individual needs and deciding collaboratively how we can best work to meet your needs and goals.
My therapeutic area of interest is working with unconscious processes in individuals, teams, groups and the concepts underpinning the psychoanalytic approach, my private work is supervised and I attend CPD events, the most recent being Understanding the Politics of Emotions in the Workplace.
In my opinion, the Fairwinds mental health provision in Cornwall has been one of the most important additions to the support network for fishermen and their families. The service has made a massive difference to those that have accessed it. The feedback has been unanimously positive from the fishermen I have been working with and they have also been willing publicly, via social media, to share that they have accessed it and recommended it to others.
Fairwinds is a mental health and wellbeing service for the fishing community.
It’s run by experienced mental health practitioner ceri Summers, and is based at Harbourside in Wesley Place, Newlyn.
Ceri works in a practical and constructive way, helping you to take control, set goals and build resilience, in the way that’s right for you.
Ceri draws on a range of tested techniques to help you find solutions. If Ceri can’t help, she knows how to get you to someone who can.
SeaFit is a service to fishermen and their families. The programme is a joint initiative from the Seafarers Hospital Society and the Fishermen’s Mission, working in partnership to deliver sustainable improvements to the heath and wellbeing of fishermen and their families around the UK.
With initial funding from Seafarers UK, SeaFit commissioned Fairwinds to provide free mental health and wellbeing support to the community in Newlyn.
