I have worked in our local NHS commissioned (IAPT) improving access to psychological therapy service since 2008 , this has given me a wealth of knowledge around mental health issues and service delivery and experience both clinically and as part of a senior management team.
I have good experience at developing and leading on projects both privately and in NHS commissioned primary care mental health services and am currently working in collaboration with Seafarers UK, The Fisherman’s Mission and Seafarers Hospital Society to provide mental health support to our local fisherman in Newlyn as part of a two year pilot project.
I am a dual trained clinician – I am an experienced psychodynamic counselling therapist registered with The National Counselling Society (NCS) and while my work is largely psychodynamically informed and supervised, if needed and more suitable, I am able to be guided by other counselling principals, including CBT techniques, solution focused techniques, ACT techniques and behavioural activation (which is a NICE recommended intervention for depression).
I am also an IAPT trained psychological wellbeing practitioner and whilst I do not offer this service privately, I am able to integrate coaching techniques as part of brief therapy if this is something you decide to focus on.
My work varies client to client, I offer short and longer term psychotherapies to adults on an individual basis, who may be suffering with a range difficulties/ presentations including depression, anxiety, anger, low self-esteem, adverse childhood experiences, relational difficulties past and present, work related issues, substance abuse, as well as other problems and challenges.
I have been a clinical supervisor for 10 years , and have supervised a broad range of therapists at different levels of their clinical practice, this has been via both individual, group or team supervision
I have 15 years of experience working in primary care mental health services this has refined my ability at assessing individual needs and deciding collaboratively how we can best work to meet your needs and goals in a way that is helpful for the client.
My therapeutic area of interest is working with unconscious processes in individuals, teams, groups and the concepts underpinning the psychoanalytic approach, my private work is supervised and I attend CPD events, the most recent being Understanding the Politics of Emotions in the Workplace.
